What happens when you overload your inverter?
Author:
Inverter AC overload refers to the situation where the load current exceeds its rated capacity or rated power when the inverter outputs alternating current (AC). This situation may cause the inverter not to work properly or even damage the equipment.
The overload protection function is an important safety feature of the inverter, which is designed to prevent the equipment from operating beyond its rated load. Its working principle usually includes the following steps:
1. Real-time monitoring
Current and power detection: The built-in sensors of the inverter monitor the output current and power in real time. By detecting the load current, the system can determine whether the current load exceeds the rated power of the inverter.
2. Set thresholds
Rated value setting: The design of the inverter usually presets a rated power and current threshold. When the load exceeds these set values, the system will judge it as an overload state.
3. Trigger protection mechanism
Automatic disconnection: Once an overload is detected, the inverter will automatically cut off the output power to protect the internal circuit and connected equipment.
Delay function: Some inverters will set a short delay to allow instantaneous overload (such as peak current when starting a motor) before cutting off to avoid false triggering.
4. Alarm Prompt
Fault Indication: In the event of an overload, the inverter may sound an alarm or flash an LED indicator to alert the user.
5. Restart Mechanism
Automatic Recovery: Some modern inverters will automatically try to resume operation after the overload is removed, while others may require a manual restart. When recovering, the inverter will monitor the load again to ensure safety.
6. Recording and Diagnosis
Data Recording: Advanced inverters may record the number and duration of overload events to facilitate user maintenance and diagnosis.
Overall, the overload protection function ensures that the inverter operates within a safe range and protects the equipment and load from damage through real-time monitoring, setting thresholds, automatic power disconnection, alarm prompts and restart mechanisms. This function is crucial to extending the service life of the inverter and improving system safety.
